OUR STORY: WHERE HAVE WE BEEN?

It was a normal, cool Fall day in 1992 when Brian Lightsey's world was turned upside down. As he sat in a graduate school class in Fort Worth, Texas, God used a guest lecturer to challenge Brian to start a church that would reach unchurched people. Brian ran headlong into God's call to reach the unreached. He would never be the same. The great adventure of faith had begun.

God began directing Brian and Helen Lightsey to Cedar Park, Texas. In July of 1996 after completing graduate school and the birth of their first child, they moved to Cedar Park, Texas. They had no previous contacts. It was an adventure of faith.

Their goal was to start a new church where unchurched people could KNOW Jesus Christ, GROW to be like him, and GO tell others about him.

After doing hundreds of door-to-door surveys, Lakeline Church was conceived on Sunday evening, October 13, 1996, when 18 adults met in a home in Cedar Park. They had a Cajun shrimp boil, and boy was the food good!

Four months later, on February 23, 1997, Lakeline Church was born when the first worship service was held in the movie theater in Lakeline Mall. Some Lakeliners still have shoes with sticky soles!

Because we had to have early worship services in order to meet in the theater and no schools were available, we talked about moving to a storefront. It would be a bold move for 30 people to commit to a lease that would involve hundreds of thousands of dollars. It was an adventure of faith. We took it.

On August 10, 1997, Lakeline Church had its first worship service in the Lincoln Village Shopping Center on Ranch Road 620. Over the next four years we expanded three times into the suites around us until we took over most of the second floor. The construction was hard work, but well worth it. We grew from 30 people to over 200 people in Sunday morning worship attendance!

As we neared the end of our lease, we were looking for more room. We were in two services with no room for expansion. No adequate schools were available in the Cedar Park area, so we looked at another storefront option that would double our square footage.

This would be a very aggressive move, but adventurous faith was part of our DNA. So as with our first storefront, we stepped out and followed God's leading. In the Summer of 2001, we made the decision to take the space, and after refinishing the facility, we held our first worship service in the Williamson Square Shopping Center on Anderson Mill Road on November 18, 2001.

As we ended our lease in the Anderson Mill Road location, Leander High School opened up for us. So on November 5, 2006, we had our first worship service in Leander High School. In the first year in the high school we had more guests coming than any time in the history of our church!

lhs_worshipWe’ve seen increased involvement in all areas of our church life – children’s ministry, youth ministry, Sunday worship, and small groups. Plus, we’ve started churches around the nation and have ongoing ministry occurring in Haiti and India where we’re taking the Good News of Christianity to those who’ve never heard the name of Jesus Christ! Over the course of our history, we’ve averaged one man, woman, teen, or child giving his or her life to Jesus Christ almost every Sunday that we’ve gathered for worship! Hundreds of lives have been impacted for eternity! Lakeliners are KNOWing Jesus Christ, GROWing to be more like him, and GOing to tell others about him! The vision is becoming a reality! It’s been a great adventure of faith!Jesus Christ!

OUR VISION: WHERE ARE WE GOING?

Now, we stand at another crossroad as we look to the future. It is a defining moment in our church's life.

pol7God has placed us in the middle of the Leander and Cedar Park area, where we believe he has some land for us. Like so many before us, we believe God has given us some land. We simply need to go find it and possess it. This is the way God has always worked. In Numbers 33:53, God told his people, “Take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given you the land to possess.” (NIV) It’s time to Possess Our Land!

It’s a new chapter in our adventure of faith. What will we write? How will God inspire our imaginations?

Can you imagine what the future holds for our church?

  • People being reached?
  • Lives being changed?
  • Children and teens laughing and learning?
  • Relationships being built?
  • Marriages and families being strengthened?
  • Needs being met?
  • Thousands of people locally and globally coming to know God for the very first time?
  • Being a part of something bigger than ourselves that will outlast us all?
  • Creating a legacy that will be here for future generations?

If you can imagine this, we invite you to join others in your Lakeline Church family as we pray together, continue in our great adventure of faith, and Possess Our Land!
